Installing Scripts Using SimpleScripts: Tutorial

What Is SimpleScripts?

SimpleScripts is a script installer available at simplescripts.com. Free access to it is included in many hosting sites such as IPage and BlueHost. They are relatively simple to use (well, they should be considering the name) and offer quite a bit of customization in their install pages. You can install virtually anything from WordPress to Site Lock to Pligg and then the software installs quite fast. However, they do have quite a bit of ads (at least IPage’s distro of them).

How To Install Something (Demo With Elgg):

First of all, when you login to your SimpleScripts account, you will see this(f1):

Then, you must select the software you want to install. I will install Elgg Social Network because I want to do a review on it anyway so it will make plenty of sense to install it. You will see a pretty simple screen (f2) that gives you the details of your install. Mine, Elgg will have the latest version of it ready to be installed. If you would like to change which version of Elgg you want to install, go to the Versions tab and select the version you want. Then, click “Install A New Version.” After that, you will be brought to a screen where you input all of your information including (if you are doing this without a hosting site), your site url (f3). Give all of the information listed. Where it asks for your CPanel, you do not have to say if you do not know. Input your domain name in the domain name section. Where it asks for FTP Information, open a ticket and ask your host for the login info. Then, click verify and submit and your install will begin.

Just One More Thing:

If you already have a site, you still say your main domain. On another screen, you will be allowed to determine which individual directory the content goes in. So, say your main domain name!
